Blow for Clare hurlers as former All-Star to take the year out on medical advice

Clare midfielder Conor Ryan is set to take the year out on medical advice after missing most of the 2016 season due to a virus.

The Cratloe man was plagued by the virus throughout last year, making his impact on the Clare team minimal, and he will step away from playing this year according to Clare FM. He will remain a part of the Clare setup however, joining Donal Doloney and Gerry O’Connor’s backroom team.

Ryan was named Man of the Match in the drawn All-Ireland final back in 2013, and also claimed an All-Star award that year as Clare landed the Liam McCarthy trophy.

There is some positive news for the Banner men however, with defender David McInerney in line to play against Tipperary on Sunday week after returning from a stint abroad.
